Kitchen Accent Colors
When it comes to accent colors in the kitchen, most designers and decorators agree on one thing; neutral colors are one of the best options to choose from. Not only can neutral colors coordinate easily with cabinets and flooring, but neutral colors look good with most anything you decide to put in the kitchen over all. On top of that, when or if you are planning to sell your house, you will find from some simple research that neutral colors are more palatable to potential buyers than crazier or bolder colors like bright reds, oranges and yellows or neon colors. In fact, if you do have crazy colors, you could be missing out on a sale because not all people like these types of styles and it essentially means that they are going to have to go back and spend their own money painting it in the way they like it - which is most likely going to be a neutral color anyway! If you are looking for some ideas on neutral colors, or you think white is boring and not something you would be interested in, take a look at the article below for some other ideas. Also included are a few fresh colors that are not neutrals, but are toned down!
Brown Kitchens Are Cozy
When most people think of a brown kitchen, they think of natural stone and wood, they think of the place where food comes from; the earth and brown is perfect as an earthy color. For those of you that are not sure about neutral colors for the kitchen, brown often becomes the new safe color. It goes with just about anything, and you can still use other accent colors like light blue or green to go along with it. If you have a really small kitchen, consider using brown as an accent color rather than a 4 wall and ceiling color. Sherwin Williams has quite a few really nice brown paint colors to choose from. Consider chocolate browns, red browns or even light tan browns. One color I really like together is a nice tan with mossy green. The tan can be used on the walls, the green moss can be used on things like draperies or blinds, and the trim can be white. Very clean and cozy looking indeed. Lighter Yellows
Essentially any paint mixed with white can be a neutral color and yellow is no different. Some people don’t like bright yellows because they almost blind you with brightness, while other people don’t like light yellows because they make a room look old or dingy. But, believe it or not, designers and homeowners agree that light yellows are really in right now. Even if you don’t want to paint the entire room this color, you can use an accent wall with white trim for a really classy, yet traditional. If lighter yellows don’t do it for you, you can go the other way, and choose darker yellows like Ralph Lauren Home Kayak Yellow. Again this doesn’t have to be on all four walls, it can just be used as an accent on one wall or you can find items like tea towels, mixers, bowls or glass that are this color and use them as accents in the kitchen so as to not overwhelm the room.
White Kitchens
I know, this is not what you came here for. But, perhaps you just had a bad experience with all white kitchens, so give this a chance and if you hate it, move on down below to another color choice! One of the reasons that some people don’t like all white kitchens is because it can look too plane or even cheesy. This is a very traditional look, you won’t see any kitchens that are modern doing this, but when you see a traditional kitchen doing it, everything is white. White walls, ceilings, cabinets, counters and anything else for that matter. The best way of going about this IF you are going to do it, is to NOT use anything that looks cheap. Don’t use vinyl flooring, don’t use laminate counters, and definitely don’t use track lighting. Instead, add quality products at a budget price that you can afford and if worse comes to worse and you want white in your kitchen but think it’s too stark - add accent colors! White is essentially a blank canvas, so whatever colors or color you add is definitely going to spruce it up and make it look amazing.
Tamed Red
Most people will agree that red is not a neutral color, it’s a warm color. But, like I said, I was going to include a few different options besides just neutrals! If you think red is too bold for your tastes, you can kick it down a notch or two. Remember though, that primarily, red is used in modern kitchens. If you have a traditional kitchen, choose another color or this will just look out of place! Add in some sleek black cabinets, black onyx counters, stainless steel fridge, oven, microwave and even a stainless steel dishwasher and you have a fantastic look - with a red wall. Most reds are used as accent colors, so I suggest you do the same unless you find a really light and pretty red that looks good in your kitchen.
